Choosing location(s)

Choosing location is one of the most important decisions you will make for your senior portraits (besides picking me as your senior photographer, of course). Combining killer outfits with the perfect backdrop will make you stand out and make your senior portraits epic. Don't let picking location(s) for your senior shoot stress you out, I am here to help, every step of the way. To make sure I steer you in the right direction, there are a few things for you to consider:

  • Your wardrobe. We want to choose location(s) that compliment your outfits, so I always suggest picking outfits first. Remember, styling assistance is included with every EWP Senior Portrait Session, so make sure to take advantage of that!
  • The weather/season. Nature locations make gorgeous backdrops during mid-late spring, summer and early-mid fall. If your session is scheduled for November-early March, when the weather gets cold, and everything begins to die, you will want to avoid nature locations (you won't want to do your whole session in brown sticks and dead grass). Urban locations look great all year but we will want to think about any holiday decorations that might be up, especially the closer we get to Christmastime.

Urban: Sleek

This is one of my favorite location styles and looks great with many different types of outfits. You can go formal, go casual, wear a cute, sleek dress, or even get a little funky, and still look amazing. The clean lines and neutral colors are never distracting and ensure that you are the star of your images.

urban: classic

Classic urban locations offer so much variety because most have both old school vibes and modern touches.

urban: funky

If you like bright colors, graffiti and murals, a funky urban location might be perfect for you. Funky urban locations are really fun to dress for because pretty much anything goes, you can even explore your grunge side.

nature: manicured

Manicured nature areas provide a gorgeous green and floral backdrop for your senior pictures. If you want wanting to wear more polished outfits but want to avoid urban locations, this is the way you want to go.

nature: fields & trees

There isn't anything prettier than tall grass, a flowing dress, and a gorgeous sunset. For classic senior portraits, nature is always beautiful, just make sure to bring enough variety in your outfits and accessories because nature, itself, isn't very diverse.

studio

Studio sessions are back in! These are NOT those boring, stuffy studio portrait sessions that your parents might have done for their senior pictures, these are fun and fresh! If booking a senior session in the winter, picking a studio location is one fool-proof way to make sure you don't have to worry about weather reschedules.

fun & different

Do you want your senior photos to be one of a kind? If so, you might want to consider using an out-of-the-box location. Think pop-up art instillations like The Sweet Tooth Hotel or Snap 151, or even your favorite things (candy shops, fast food places, hobbies).
